How to Measure
Once you’ve selected the pieces that will best fit your style, you must make sure they will fit into your home – literally. Measuring the space where the piece will go is important, but measuring the ceiling and all of the doorways leading from the point of entry to that space are just as important. Large items such as poster beds, armoires and sectional sofas are commonly returned because they simply do not fit.
To avoid purchasing furniture that won’t fit into your home, it is important to make sure your selected piece will fit through the following: exterior doorways, interior doorways and hallways (check angles around tight corners). Stairways can be tricky when maneuvering furniture. Make sure to measure from the bottom of the step to the ceiling if your furniture must be carried through a stairway.
